Being originally from the east coast I somehow never took on a Southern accent, even though it completely lives in me. So growing up I never felt like I belonged in the South, or anywhere in particular, really, and was always searching for where that might be. I am sure that figures in my attraction to acting and especially the characters I most like to play. They always have a strong regional identity - I absolutely love doing dialects.

I try to audition as though that thirty seconds in the room is the job, so Twilight was a really enjoyable audition to do.

Am I telling the truth? I try not to do anything in an empty way, just because I think I should. So there are the mechanics of working on a set, doing publicity, preparing for an audition, and I do all of those but at the same time I ask myself if it's really me, and if it's not I look harder. Because there's no point trying to figure out what other people want. That is an impossible task. And it's boring.

I love that vampires are like humans, but they have all the capabilities of animals. They combine death, immortality, and sex, all in this impossibly beautiful way-they're the ultimate predators.

I don't know if I'd want to direct, but I can really see myself writing at some point. I would love to work with (director) Terrence Malick. Terrence Malick is one of my favorite directors, and it would be great to work with him in the future.
