Padma Shri Bangaru Adigalar, the founder of Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Siddhar Peetam, passed away due to a heart attack on Thursday. He was 82 years old. Bangaru Adigalar paved the way by allowing women to enter the sanctum sanctorum and perform poojas at this temple.

The then Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran laid the foundation for Adi Parasakthi Polytechnic. Melmaruvathur’s importance is explained by the fact that all trains stop at Melmaruvathur junction. He was also a recipient of the Padma Shri award.

In his condolence message, Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi said: “Deeply saddened at the passing away of ‘Amma’ Bangaru Adigalar. A highly evolved soul and a great spiritual teacher.
